Geoff Barca--Class of 1996

Since I graduated in 96' there are a lot of things I would have changed. But it's too late now for me but hopefully you all won't make the same mistakes that I made. I moved to Bakersfield about a year after I graduated and just struggled. I found jobs here and there that didn't last. Then I got on at the new Taret Distribution Center and I'm loving it.  Although I just landed that job in August of 2003 I had my other job call me for duty.  I'm currently stationed in Iraq outside of Nasiriyah running supplies up to the troops in the north.  I'm receiving a Purple Heart for an injury that occurred on one of my missions that could of easily taken my life if the enemy had waited two more seconds to throw the explosive.  Now I'm doing good but still recovering. If any of you current students do decide to go into the military make sure you take band.  Honestly Mr. Ingram's direction got me prepared for just about everything the military could throw at me from discipline to marching. More or less if you think life is hard now, be prepared for what is to come.

Tammy (Barnes) Jones--Class of 1988

After Graduation I attended COS for a year while Tammy began to work at Lumberjack in Visalia. After a half year of COS I was tired of school and wanting to stretch my legs and experience life.  So as I began to try to find myself I found Tammy and then I found Uncle Sam. The United States
Air Force, so I joined and became a Security Specialist. In 1990 after Graduating from the USAF  Security Police Academy and from Air Base Ground Defense. I came back home where Tammy  and I got married. We both went to Rhein Main Air Base (Frankfurt) Germany, where I took part in
Host Security for several major events such as the releasing of the hostages from Lebanon, the  beginning of Operations Provide Hope and Provide Promise. I even had the distinct pleasure of  guarding Prince Charles and Princess Di (when they stopped at our Air Base). I was even there for
the reunification of Germany (boy what a party that was). I was even deployed to the Middle East  and all over Europe and through this all Tammy stayed with me. From Germany our life settled  down and we moved or I received my orders to Great Falls Montana. Neither of us really liked it
there and we both began to want to come home, so got out of the military and came home.

Now Tammy and I have been married for 11 (almost) 12 years we have a beautiful 6 year old  daughter. Tammy works as a Costumer Service Specialist at CIGNA, and I am currently a Deputy  Sheriff with the County of Tulare. All I can say is, it is amazing how many of Tulare Union Grads  have gone on to bigger and better things. Keep it up all Tulare is proud of you all and for those of  you who did not move on and are getting into trouble "I WILL BE WATCHING YOU" take care  and always LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST- DO NOT LET IT GET YOU DOWN- BECAUSE YOU
ARE ALL TUHS ALUMNI.

I am a freshman at the University of California at Davis.
My major is microbiology.  College life is very different from High school. You are now not only taking care of all of your school work but you are also taking care of all the little things that you never had to worry about before (remember to bring a hair brush!!!) College is really fun you can do a lot of the things that you could not do in high school but you also have to be much more responsible about all of your money. Run Away from the Credit card people in front of the bookstore!!!  I love college I want to say hi to all of my friends back at home. You know who you are and if you don't then you probably were not my friend. I want to say hi to all of the teachers that inspired and gave me the confidence to be anything I wanted to be and the knowledge to accomplish all of those dreams.
Thanks to all of you.

Terry Beair--Class of 1988

After high school I attended College of the Sequoias for a year and a half. There I played football for two seasons. I then received a scholarship to play football at Wayne State College in Wayne Nebraska. At W.S.C. I received a few honors for playing football: NCAA Div. II first team all-state Neb. defensive back, and was voted by the team MVP of the defense. While playing I was given the chance to work with high school kids at football camps. This sparked my interest in teaching and coaching. I then changed my field of study from criminal justice to k-12 health and physical education. While pursuing this career I coached outside linebackers at W.S.C. for a season. At that Time I met my wife Misty. She is a special ed. teacher at a local high school. We have been married for four years, and have two awesome boys: Brandon (2yrs) and Jacob (8mos.). With getting married and having two kids my teaching career was stopped for awhile. At the present I am currently attending W.S.C. working on my degree in k-12 PE and working full time at Great Dane Trailers. I also am working part-time at an area high school as an assistant football coach (Defensive Coordinator, receivers and dB's.), and assistant coach in track (Shot and Discus). I am projected to complete my degree in May of 2000.

Just a quick note to update my info.  I am currently working as a school based case manager for at risk youth in
the Norfolk NE school system.  I am still married to Misty who is a special education teacher for Wayne
community schools.  I now have three children Brandon (7), Jacob (5), and Maddison (2).
I have a BS in K-12 Health and Physical Education.  I am currently an assistant football coach for Wayne High.

Hello, TUHS people.  Life definitely changes in the first 10 years after you graduate from school.  Some people get  out of college when they are expected to, some don't (such is the story of my life).  Stuff happens, what can I say. I got married to my husband, Tim, in March of 1998, moved from Tulare (Visalia, actually) to Sacramento in July  of 1999, and have been attending Sac State ever since.  Granted, it's only been 6 unit semesters for me so my  husband could get his degree finished.  He graduated in May of 2003, so now I am full time again and will be done with my degree in 2005 (maybe Fall 2004 if I overload and take summer school).  Another main reason for it taking longer than I wished is that we had our son, Gabriel, in January 2003 and he has been a big chunk of time taken out of what used to be time used sleeping or studying.  He's amazing and I wouldn't change it, though.
As a bit of advice, DON'T HAVE KIDS UNTIL YOU ARE DONE WITH COLLEGE OR ARE IN THE CAREER FIELD
YOU WANT TO BE IN.  It puts a major damper on what you wanted to do if it's not planned.  Kids are cute,
but they're more work than it seems like when you see someone else's kids.

So, advice, advice....stay in school, don't screw up in high school, don't screw up in college, GO to college, and don't get pregnant until you're ABSOLUTELY ready for the responsibility it brings.  Oh, and don't mess with Mr. Ingram in band, or us alum will come kick your freeloading behinds into shape.  His discipline is what gets the band going where they do and he deserves your respect and attention.  My plug on band.  Peace out.

Life has a crazy way of taking you where it wants to go. Sometimes that's where you want, other times it is not. My best advice for those in high school is to honestly do your best and have fun with school. You can't get those years back once they're gone. And if you get the chance, go to college. You'll be glad you did. Cheers.

For those of you now attending TUHS listen to a voice of experience, treasure your friends, some you may forget and never see again after high school and some you will remember forever. I live in Albuquerque, N.M. on the West face of the Sandia Mountains. My wife Michele (from New York City) and my fifteen-year old son Jared watch glorious sunsets every night. My son is a wonderful young  man and our time together is precious. Jared and I can fish and hunt with our dogs in a matter  of minutes from our home. I am a G.I.S. analyst for the Public Service Company of New Mexico.
This country is still rough and tough.  The air here is clean and cold in the winter and scorching hot

Howdy to all! I have been checking the grads page every now and again looking for the  addition of messages from old friends and decided it is time to add my two cents.  I graduated from Brigham Young University in 2000, receiving my degree in Family Science/Human Development exactly seven weeks after our first son joined the family.  My husband is a history and English teacher in Payson, Utah, about an hour south of
Salt Lake City. Since graduation from BYU we have had a daughter join our family, as well,
and are expecting another daughter the end of September 2004. I am lucky enough to not
have to work outside the home at this point and spend my time doting over my little ones.
It would be great to hear from some of you others who peruse the grads page but never
leave messages or updates - I have fond memories of the friends and fun from the days at TUHS.
I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks to Bob Shirley for telling me about this site.  I love all the great responses you've gotten for the TUHS web page.  I am currently working in Huntington Beach CA, but I just moved here from Nairobi, Kenya and before that worked for many years in the Mojave Desert at China Lake in a Navy lab. I left Tulare for Westmont College in Santa Barbara where I married my wife.  Our first child was born in Laramie while attending the U. of Wyoming.  Wyoming is the state where my wife was born and raised on a sheep ranch.  I finally graduated with a BA in physics from U.C. Berkeley and later an MS from U.C.L.A.  My PhD is from Colorado State, Fort Collins. After my stint with lasers and other optical devices for the Navy, my wife and I joined Wycliffe Bible Translators.  I now coordinate research on languages.  As an organization, we work with more than 1200 unwritten languages developing alphabets, teaching people to read, and translating God's Message into their language. It would be fantastic to have more Tulareans working with us.  Some who have - Dave and Kathy Rising, Jack and Brenda Rushings and Paul and Linda Tucker.

Julie (Bingham) Gudmundsen--Class of 1973

I attended TUHS from 1969-1973. I spent most of my time marching in the band, playing in the orchestra, chasing certain boys, and harassing favorite teachers: Mr. Dumermuth ("D.A.D"), Mr. Lyons, Mr. Knapp and others. Attended college at BYU, majoring in University Studies (music/art/child development.) Married Scott Gudmundsen, of Santa Ana, California in 1976. Graduated with BA in ' 77.  We returned to Tulare during 1978-1980. I played oboe during this time with the Tulare County Symphony and "Sierra Winds" Quintet. Our first two children were born here, Trent in 1978, and Tracey in 1980.  We moved to Utah in the Fall of 1980. I played in the Salt Lake Repertory Orchestra and Mormon Youth Symphony briefly. We later moved to Vernal, where we have lived for the past 20 years.  After spending 15 years in police work, my husband is now in training to be a Manager with Wal-Mart.  I work part-time writing and editing a weekly email newsletter and managing a website. I continue to play the oboe and perform frequently at weddings, banquets, etc. as part of a classical guitar/oboe duo called "Rosewood." We just finished recording our first (and probably last!) CD.  And...I still like frogs....for anyone who remembers that earlier obsession.   Our children are Trent, Tracey, Tyler and Stan, age 22, 20, 19, and 17.  Would love to hear from old friends!

Well...I'm not exactly sure what to write on this...but a quick synopsis on my life would go something like this...most likely the only Senior to have their only sibling be born during their Senior year (he's graduating from TUHS this year by the way).  Got married in 1990 and moved to the LA area.  Moved back to the valley in late 1991...separated and divorced in 2001..and I moved to Tulare in November 2002..with what I truly believe is the most amazing and wonderful man on earth.  We're involved with the Renaissance Festivals throughout California...a fun and exciting way to live and learn a bit of history.

Just found this web site while surfing the web. It is great to see a place where former classmates can rediscover each other. The last time most of us have seen any classmates was back when we were all fresh faced kids looking the big world in the eye.   At this time, I am semi-retired. Retired from active duty Navy February 28, 1983. Retired from Fleet Reserve 1991. I work for Pinkerton Security in Fresno. Would love to hear from former classmates I haven't seen for so long.

I graduated with the class of 1998. I'm currently stationed in Michigan with the U.S. Coast Guard. I have 4 months left and then will be heading home to finish my schooling at Fresno State Univ.  to get my degree in AG Business.  It's been a fun four years of being out of Tulare and seeing some of the US and the world itself.
I miss TUHS, it was the best 4 years of my life. I'd like to say hi to Mr. Warren, he's a great  teacher and even though my grades didn't show it, I learned everything you and my other teachers ever taught. Take care all and e-mail me to say hey sometime.

Melissa Bravin--Class of 1999

College and Major: UC Davis, mechanical and aeronautical engineering, minor

Thoughts on High School:
I never realized how extremely ready I was for college while still in the early stages of high school. I even tried to leave high school a year early, to no avail. I came to realize that people didn't care what rumors had been said about you in 7th grade, or who you had a crush on in kindergarten, or
why the people you thought were your best friends in 4th grade decided to ignore you one day....Nope.  You come fresh with a clean slate, and be ready to make the BEST friends you will ever have had...up to this point in your life. The classes are hard... It's like every class is AP US History (the hardest class in HS I ever took!), and you are expected to make ALL 18 units a top priority. Another thing about college: Swallow your pride and GET HELP on stuff you don't understand... Go to office hours, talk to your T.A... whatever it takes! Do not fear!! It is possible. Even though my high school character building, particularly my musical experience, was most affected by my activities outside of school, I think I learned valuable diplomatic skills in dealing with other, sometimes kind of intimidating, people. High school was both the best and worst during senior year. If you would like to find out more, please feel free to e-mail me with ANY QUESTIONS you may have... :)

University: University of California, Davis
Major: Mechanical Engineering

I am a senior majoring in mechanical engineering (with an emphasis on transportation and combustion )at UCD, and am thoroughly enjoying the experience. I will be graduating with a BS in December, 2003, aiming to pursue a career with an automotive company like Honda or Toyota, dealing with either alternative fuel vehicles or high-end sports/rally cars.  I currently work for the State of California Air Resources Board, but hopefully will start soon as an intern at General Electric Power Systems.  Hobbies: music (saxophone), drawing/painting, model cars, real cars, science fiction stuff. Any questions? E-mail me! I love distractions from engineering.

Date: 2/12/03

Hope all is well. Here is my updated information:

College & Major &/or Career Information:

I am c/o 1999 from TUHS. I graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in March 2004. I then worked from November 2004 - December 2005 with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) near Baltimore, Maryland, providing protection to military bases against chemical/biological/radiological/nuclear (CBRN) weapons of mass destruction. I now work at the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA, performing computer simulations of commercial aircraft engines. The work is really interesting, and I plan on starting a master's degree in engineering, as well as exploring the possibility of getting my private pilot's license (one of the perks of working for a company like Boeing is that they pay for continuing education, as well as things like getting your pilot's license!). I live in downtown Seattle. I also play alto saxophone, as I have since I was about 7 or 8 (including in the TUHS marching band & jazz band, as well as several groups at UC Davis). I currently play in several groups in Seattle. Comments to current students/staff.

I would like to thank all former staff - most notably Mrs. Landon, Mr. Edminster, & Ms. Welch, if they are still around - my favorite math and science teachers who prepared me well for a college major in engineering, and two great jobs where I have learned even more! Thanks!

If anyone would like to email me to ask about how to be an engineer, what we do, or my opinions on the matter, please feel free to email me at the address shown below. Please also feel free to email me about music and playing and any questions you may have about that. If you do email me, please do not send attachments, as it is a work email address.

Larry Bridges--

Came up on my old birthplace, Tulare, while I was browsing around the internet.  I was born in the Tulare Hospital 56 years ago, and named after the town (Larry, and middle name Gail, after the county judge at that time). You may know or have heard of my older brother Kenneth Bridges.  Used to work for the city fire department.  Got a little excited when I came across Tulare Union High. So; I'm going to take a look at the school before I sign off.

Don Brooks--Class of 1980

My name is Don Brooks. I attended TUHS from 1976 to 1980, when I moved to Lompoc, California and attended college in Santa Maria.
Eventually ended up back in the central valley and graduated from Fresno State with a BS in Business in 1987.
I was surprised to see so few folks listed at the website from the mid 70's to early 80's. Come on guys... we know how to work computers too!
After college I started working for Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto California and began MBA studies at Stanford Sloan School of Business. Although I've been with HP my entire career, I've been fortunate to have held a variety of jobs (IT, marketing, sales, consulting and now management). I've also been lucky enough to have traveled to many different places and countries inky work; only to have that experience remind me how much I truly appreciate the people, experiences, and good times I had in Tulare. Its truly a special place.
Best of luck to all TUHS grads.

Miranda Browning--Class of 1998

After graduating from TUHS, I did a lot roaming around ca and just exploring my options. I spent some time at the coast, but eventually I had to come home. Finally after 3 years of boring jobs I finally found one that I can grow with, I am collections agent. THE KIND THAT CALL AND DEMAND MONEY HA HA HA. Anyway it's great the company I work for pays for schooling so I do plan on going back to school in the spring to major in business finance. I got engaged on July 21, 2001, to a really special guy. We hope to establish a home in Tulare out in the country on a Farm with lots of John Deere's haaa. Later Relocating to Grover or Pismo Beach to start our own business, and eventually having one child (the only child life is a great one!.) My advice to all TUHS students is to enjoy the time you have there, it goes all too fast. And always remember "WHEN I DIE IT WONT MATTER WHAT SIZE OF HOUSE I HAD, HOW MUCH MONEY I MADE, OR THE KIND OF CAR I DROVE, BUT IT WILL MATTER HOW MUCH LOVE I GAVE AND ACCEPTED"

Autumn (Cabral) Youmans--

I am currently living in Las Vegas, Nevada. People may know me as Autumn Cabral. About 3 years ago, God had sent this wonderful man into my life. He was everything that I had asked from God. We got married on October 11th 2003 in Las Vegas. We moved her in Feb. of 2003.   Vegas is GREAT!!! Anyhow, my husband is a Financial Planner and I am a Preschool Teacher Aide at our Church that we attend to.   I currently took a Early Childhood Development Course through a Christian College called Concordia. This fall I plan on attending the Community College here in Vegas to take all my ECE courses and then transfer to Concordia Irvine to get my BA Degree so that I can work in Lutheran Schools.
We have no children yet, but are trying. I encourage all those who are still in High School to never give up on your dreams. Stay in school and try not to be tempted by peer pressure. The only cool thing to do is to stay in school and don't do drugs. BE YOURSELF because the only person that matters is GOD!!!! You need to take of yourself and no one else.

I would like to say hello to Mrs. Nunley, you may not know this, but having you in my life really helped me. Thanks a bunch!!!
Have a Blessed Year!!!
In His Name,

Autumn Youmans

Margaret (James Call) Call--Class of 1953

Addendum, May 2001

It's been more than 15 + years since I was diagnosed with Parkinson disease and is now necessary that I use an electric wheelchair. I live in a Nursing Home near Santa Monica and am President of the Residents Council. I am active and when I am able I join friends for lunch, shopping or a movie. I am looking forward to attending the 50th Class Reunion. I would love to hear from classmates and those who may remember me when I was Manager of the old Tulare Theatre.  Don't let my name change fool you. Just because I'm now MARGARET LUCILE CALL, I am the same person as when I was JAMES HIATT CALL. If we were to pass in the street or sit near each other in a restaurant, you would see "an attractive blonde, neatly dressed woman, a little plump maybe, in a wheelchair." We would probably exchange smiles.
I am also writing this letter to tell you how proud I am to be a graduate of TULARE UNION HIGH SCHOOL and a member of the REDSKIN BAND under the direction of Gordon Lowe. I got goose bumps when I saw the band in the Rose Parade.
I am also writing this letter after reading one posted by Michael Sias Jr, Class of 1990. He describes the almost daily torment and harassment he received as he was held up for ridicule by classmates because he was "poor and a little effeminate." He was so threatened by these bigoted bullies he considered suicide or running away from home to escape. He was called Queer and probably Fagot and Homo. His only safe haven during school was in his counselors office. Unfortunately, Michael is just one of the thousands who are unjustly discriminated daily. I am also writing this letter to thank Mrs. Haven for her courage in posting a letter with a different view of student life at Tulare High than the sugar coated ones we normally read. I am also writing this to urge students and teachers and parents and everyone to speak up against bigot's and bullies who torment people just because they are different, effeminate, physically impaired or just plain poor.  Think about how many great works of art would never have been painted.  Great scientific discoveries or history changing inventions would never have been discovered had we destroyed the lives of those who were effeminate, a little strange or weird. What if you were the one facing discrimination.  I urge you take a stand now, don't let the bigots and bullies win.

Just because I call myself MARGARET LUCILE CALL, and choose to wear a dress and makeup I am still the same person on the inside as when you knew me as JAMES HIATT CALL. Save me a dance at our 50th reunion. You can't miss me, I look just like the little old lady who lives next door. I'll see there.

Tiffani Cardoza--Class of 1987

Wow! What a great site!
I graduated TUHS in 1987. I was active in Band, Drum Line, Volleyball (CIF Champs), Basketball and  Softball.   I went to COS for a year and moved to Northridge in 89. I played volleyball at L.A. Pierce College, where   I obtained my AA and then went on to CSU Northridge where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.   I am currently teaching P.E. (surprise, surprise!) at Robert Frost Middle School in Granada Hills, CA.... and I absolutely love it! I bought a house in December -99 in Chatsworth and am enjoying "making it my own!"  I have yet to marry and have children, but I intend to do so when the time is right.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding Southern California or CSU Northridge.
I would also love to hear from any old friends.

Howdy ya'll,  Am I the only one who checks this site out? I'm still living and working in the Great Falls, Montana area. Mostly in the northern part of the State. I will be separating from the US Air Force next August 18th, so I'll be back in Tulare a couple months prior to visit, before moving back overseas to work. Anyone with info on the '96 reunion, let me know, david.carlson@malmstrom.af.mil or me_93523@yahoo.com.

Howdy ya'll,  t's been about a year since I updated my info, so I'll give a quick update. I am now a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force and am
still working as a Security Forces Member at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana for the 341st Missile Security Forces Squadron I am scheduled to separate from active duty this coming August. I am planning on finding a job here in Great Falls, Montana and settling down in this area. If I can't find a job here, I have a job lined up in Kuwait working for the Army as a contract security officer at Camp Doha. I'd love to hear from anyone from the Class of '96, I've kind of lost contact with everyone since graduation.

Lance Carlson--Class of 1997

Hey Tulare, it's been another year already since I updated this thing. I'm still in Northern California at Beale AFB and I am enjoying it most of the time. I spent the last year supervising the afternoon/evening shift in my shop. I had my share of chewing on my backside, but they can't take my birthday away. Every time I think life is going to slow down it takes off in another gear. Thankfully I haven't been across " The Pond"  yet this year, but I am scheduled for late this year. For the past year I have been working on running, which has become my hobby. About a month ago I started considering running in a marathon, but I haven't figured out when to stuff it into my schedule. I still make it down to Tulare about once a quarter. Marysville has become a true home to me finally after being here two years. At least every weekend I am not pining for going home every week. If anybody is in the Sacramento area or wants to get in contact with me follow the link. Thanks for reading this little bio thing. God bless! (Psalm 139)
May 20, 2004

Hello Tulare, another year has whipped past. I'm still stationed at Beale AFB, but I wasn't even close to being in the US from January to May. I was in a location in the Middle East supporting numerous aircraft flying refueling and reconnaissance missions over Iraq and Afghanistan. About all I did was work, work some more, sleep a little, eat, and work some more. I learned a lot about my job and found out that after 8 years I still don't know everything. I realized that if I let everything slide off my back I could handle anything thrown my direction and if that didn't work my birthday could never be taken away. I'm back to America now and thoroughly joying the abundant freedom this country has to offer. I learned to not take anything for granted. Getting 24 hours off of work was a precious time to rest and recharge. Now I get two days every week to rest and recharge. If you think high school is hard keep an open mind when you get out here. I wish many times I could just go back to worrying about tests instead of worrying about working on equipment that could affect the way an aircraft flies. If that aircraft doesn't fly then the mission gets a hole in it and breaks down. The break down could potentially cause actions in the war zone that are not in our favor. This year was and is going to be yet another adventure.

I have no idea what God has in store, but I'm sure He has a couple of surprises up His sleeve. I would be happy to hear from anybody.

Date received:06/04/05

I'm deployed to the Middle East again in support of U-2 spy planes.  I think it is going to be pretty regular for me to miss most of the winters/spring if I continue to be stationed at Beale AFB in NorCal, because for the past 2 years I've ended up over in this section of the world right after Christmas.  One thing though it sure makes the time go quickly.  The country I'm in this time is a place that brings back lots of memories of California .  I have to remind myself everyday that I'm here to work instead of play and bask in the Mediterranean Sea .  This is the best kept secret in the AF, and I'm going to do my best to keep it that way.  I'll be over here until May 2006, after that anything can happen.  I'm planning on being the Tulare area for at least a few days in May while I figure out what side of the world I'm on.  For those of you that are on myspace, just look me up.  I've got a couple of pictures of the area around here and other travels.  I can hardly believe that I've already been gone from Union for 9 years.  I thought life would at least slow down a couple notches by the time I hit 25.  Instead of slowing down everything has gained speed, and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down.  Life is so much more exciting when you realize that you're not in control of anything, but God is.  The journey has been life changing.  I'm looking forward to the many weird, exciting, crazy, and odd things God has in store for me.  He never ceases to amaze me.  (Prov.6:6-11)  Thanks for reading.

SSgt. Carlson

Date received:  3/4/2006

Hey Tulare,  this has been the best year yet for me in my military career.  For the first time I'm actually having fun at work and outside of work at the same time.  From January to May I was in a very beautiful country basically on a paid vacation, but don't tell that to the people I worked with.  My time in the country to remain nameless for security reasons was very relaxing most of the time.  I grew even more in my knowledge of the equipment I work with and how it impacts missions.  Unfortunately I had to return to Beale AFB CA and practically start over again in life.  It hasn't been as difficult as past returns have been.  I am just glad I made an impact on people across the pond.  Look me up on Myspace under Lance Carlson if you feel like it.

Oh yeah, next year is 10 years.  Anybody doing reunion planning?  I may be back in the "sandbox" though.  I practically volunteered to go back when I landed back in the US 2 months ago.

Mark Carrillo--Class of 1992

Just a quick update.  After living in San Jose for a bit over four years, I decided (with a little arm twisting from
former SC classmates) to move back to Southern California.  I'm currently living in Pasadena, CA and am working for a public accounting firm located in downtown Los Angeles.

Aside from my regular responsibilities at work, I've been getting back into the classroom as a volunteer through Junior Achievement and have also been keeping busy with campus recruiting at USC.
Outside of work, I've been keeping busy spending time with friends, traveling, and getting reacquainted and
adjusting to life in LA.

 Sonia Carrillo--Class of 1990

Update: Hello Class of 1990 and; other classmates! Sorry that my old listing was so boring but I just quickly followed the bare minimum instructions. Anyway, here is a little more information so that you know what I have been up to! I graduated and received my BS in Computer Science. I know my old teachers would be shocked! :) After a foray in unemployment, I landed a position with Integres Global Logistics, where I am currently employed. I call this a temporary sanctuary to afford my lifestyle while I search for my dream job. :)
I am currently living in Sacramento, enjoying the single life, setting footprints around the world when I get a chance. :)
To all my old friends, acquaintances,  foes ... I would love to hear from to see how well you are doing or not doing!
If you e-mailed me in the past and  I never responded, I'm sorry but I listed a junk e-mail box, so your message was probably deleted.

February 25, 2004  Hello former classmates!  Here's a bit of what I have been up to since graduation from TUHS.  I received my BS in Computer Science.  Which, of course, many of my old teachers & classmates would be shocked to hear.  After college, I worked for a few companies in the Sacramento area but never quite took to them.  Finally, in 2005, I started working for Aerojet (Aerospace/Defense company) as a Systems Analyst for Engineering Applications. I really enjoy the industry & find the work challenging.
As you may already know, I currently live in Sacramento & am enjoying being single.  When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with friends and traveling as much as I can.
I would love to hear from any old classmates & friends.

Sheron L. (Cartwright) Renfro--Class of 1959

My father, Donovan F. Cartwright, was the Superintendent of THSD from 1946 to 1962.
I went to C.O.S. for a year, then to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. I spent a year in Europe before completing  college at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR in 1965. I returned to Cal Poly for my 5th year to obtain a teaching credential, majoring in Home Economics, with a minor in English. My first teaching position was in Bakersfield, CA. I moved from Bakersfield in 1969 and then returned in 1986 from Mississippi where I had lived for several years. I began teaching Special Education while I went to Cal State University, Bakersfield, to obtain an SH (severely handicapped) Credential.  am now a Program Specialist with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. I work with the MOVE Program which began here in Bakersfield in 1986. I have worked with MOVE from the start, team teaching with Linda Bidabe who is the founder and author of the MOVE Curriculum. MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) is an educational program which helps people with severe motor or multiple disabilities gain some degree of independence in sitting, standing and walking while engaged in functional activities. MOVE has now spread to many places around the world.  I looked for a Tulare web site because this is the 40th reunion for our class. I haven't been to any of the previous reunions, so thought it would be interesting to see what is in the works. I am interested in hearing from any other 1959 graduates. I have completely lost touch.  The course in high school that I feel was most useful was typing. The ability to type has opened many employment doors. Of course, it's essential now with computers being the way of life.

I am currently a full time student at Fresno City College, where I am Majoring in Criminology. I would encourage students to work hard in high school. It really pays off. I would also like to thank Mr. Shanley and Mr. Reindl. You guys believed in me and pushed me to work harder. I didn't take school seriously until it was almost too late. However, because you believed in me it has given me the determination I needed to do beyond my best in college. Thank You so much.

Nick Cendoya--Class of 1990

Well, my dear classmates, this is Nick Cendoya, a foreign exchange student who had the great honor (and great fun) of being part of the class of 1990, together with the boy whose family hosted me, Adrian Holguin.

It’s been a long time since I left Tulare , which I’m always hoping to come back. I feel very grateful to the Holguin family and the school in which I had such a good time.

After graduation, I got back to my country and got my degree as a lawyer in 1998. While studying, I taught English (believe it or not!) at a school in my home town, Montevideo .

I got married in 1998 to Analhí, and have two daughters, Martina (5) and Lucía (1).

Nowadays, I direct de Law Department of Med School Hospital in Montevideo , where I still live, teach Administrative Law (as an assistant teacher) in my University and run my own law firm (Da Silva & Cendoya Associated).

I remember with lots of joy my year as an exchange student there, experience that helped a lot to be the man I am.

After being so eager to get out of Tulare, I graduated from UCI in '94 with BAs in Economics & Sociology and spent the next 7 years in commercial real estate acquisitions, but grew tired of the 'rat race' and 'daily grind', so shortly after 9/11 I decided to go back to grad school...got into 4 out of 6 MBA and both UC Davis & CSU Fresno for the MS in Enology, choose Fresno over Davis because of the on campus winery as compared to the research orientation at Davis and have been taking chemistry and wine classes ever since. My BAs met exactly ZERO prerequisites, so it's a 5 year program for me and I hope to be out by spring 2006.

Richard Cheney--Class of 1998

I've been doing great down here In Bakersfield .  How are things at Tulare Union?  I'm sure it's
your summer time now and you probably don't want to think of school much, I don't blame you.
I haven't spoke to anyone I went to school with since I graduated ...well with the exception of a couple of friends, but for the most part life has started and I'm living it to it's fullest.
After high school I went to C.O.S. for a year and was a bit lost.  I couldn't seem to find any interest in anything,
especially art (I love it, don't get me wrong, I just didn't want to be poor for the rest of my life).  I left
after that year and just worked a lot of odd jobs.  After moving to Bakersfield in 2000, I fell into music heavily.
Played vocals and bass guitar in a rock band and just for one second, thought I could actually make it.  That faded fast (he he). Worked a few more odd jobs until finding something that I was totally interested in.  Architecture.  A local architect took me in and showed me the ropes of the business and now here I am a few years later working as a draftsman and loving it. An example of a few projects I've worked on:  the new "Kragan" in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Tulare , the "Tehachapi Crossing Shopping Center in Tehachapi, the "Perfume shop" in the Horizon Outlet Mall in Tulare ... etc.  Go figure, the one subject I
hated the most was math and now I use it more than anything.  Don't get me wrong, you did teach me a lot that I use everyday (A lot: two words, not one).  I'm still doing music once in a while with friends and playing bass guitar with the Bakersfield Symphony.  Trying to keep busy is number one on my agenda.  I just don't want to be stuck in a repetitive rut for the rest of my life.  Been across the country a couple of times and about to do it again with my girlfriend, hiked half-dome at Yosemite a few times, and thinking about sky-diving, but haven't made up my mind yet.  Oh yeah, and no, I haven't lost my love for science fiction.  That's one thing I always enjoyed talking to you about.  You are one of the three teachers I think about the most.  The other two are Mrs. Myers and Mr. Ellis.  You guys definitely put the largest indentation in my memory.  Thanks.
Anyways, I didn't really want to post anything on the school web site, I guess you can say I'm still a little shy.  I sure didn't hesitate sending you an email though.  How are Mrs. Myers and Mr. Ellis?
I've got to get back to work now but I hope to hear from you soon.

Elizabeth Ann (Cid) Wehner --Class of 1999

I am Elizabeth Ann Cid and in the class of 99 and I have graduated early.  I am currently attending a college in Washington, DC just like I wanted too.  I miss everyone so much. My major is currently business with a minor in political science.  I will be there for graduation so I look forward to see all my friends and all my old teachers that I adored (you know who you are). I would like to say thank you to all of them for teaching me so well, and giving me the self confidence I needed in order to come all the way across the country to do well.  I miss everyone allot [I misspelled it for you, Mrs. Haven :)]
I will see you soon.  Anyone contact me at my e-mail address if they want.  I miss everyone and love everyone.  I never realized how much Tulare Union was my home until now!

Elizabeth (Cid) Wehner  --  Class of 1999

Hey Mrs. Haven,

I wonder if you remember me at all.  It's Elizabeth Cid.  I figured I would update everyone on my life thus far.  I am now 25 years old, almost an adult; I guess I refuse to grow up.  I have now been married for about 4 years and have a wonderful son named Wyatt.  He is definitely the apple of my eye and I love him to death.

My husband is named Chris; he just got of the service, after 6 years, in May.  He was in Iraq for a year when my son was born, he missed out on the first few years and decided to get out and become something better than a soldier, a father.  I am happy he made that decision.

I am now living in McAllen , Texas .  It is very hot over here.  I just decided to go back to college after my 5 year break and I am getting a degree in Information Technology.  I should be finished with that by next year.  I guess I took the 10 year plan to college huh?

I am currently working as a secretary in a local district until I get my degree, in which I will be a Computer Specialist.  I am heading an automated system in our district that makes all of Special Education Records almost completely paperless.  We are one of the first in the Country to do this, so I'm pretty proud of myself.

Well, that's my life in a nutshell, if anyone wants to get a hold of me or in the Texas area, definitely get a hold of me.  My e-mail is niceintern@aol.com.  I look forward to talking to anyone from Union .  I'm far away and I miss it very much.  I also have a little website that has pictures and a little info on me, drop by.  www.myspace.com/niceintern

My advice to other students:  Have fun being a kid, adulthood is not all it is cracked up to be....lol.

I hope I am still your favorite student!  I hope I'm still Mrs. Johnson's favorite too!

Love,
Elizabeth Ann Wehner (Cid)

Erin (Clinton) Pritchett--Class of 1994

My name is Erin Clinton and I graduated from Tulare Union in 1994. I moved up to Sacramento in 1995, and began my time of finding myself. After many years of trial and error, I have finally found my niche, and life is happy once again. I am now attending American River College in Sacramento CA, going for my AA degree, and then will be transferring to Sacramento State University to major in business
management and minor in foreign languages. I currently work at Kaiser hospital in the employee health department, while attending school. I will be getting married in October of this year (2000) to a wonderful man that I met while living here in Sacramento. We have been dating for 1 year and 3 months, and the proposal was on October 2nd of 1999. That has-been what I have been doing since high school. My shout out to all other grads and teachers is never forget the past, but don't let it get in the way of your future... Keep smiling!!!

Tamara (Cloepfil) Clohessy--Class of 1971

I was a graduate of 1971 and hope to get to the 30th reunion. I went on to college (I graduated from Humboldt State University in 1976 and then Western Oregon College of Education with a masters in Deaf Ed.) and a few different teaching credentials. Now I am a Resource Specialist at an elementary school up in north west California. I am married with two teenage sons. I use that "brainer power" ( that got me the nerd label in high school) to enter trivia contests on the radio. I was the first female mascot many years back.
Always loved school and have never really left.  Still think fondly of Union. I had Mr. Berger for 3 years of social studies. I guess he never left ......our class broke him in.
Sorry to say there is little use for the mascot outfit, but I still have parts of it! Love to hear from my old friends -

Hello class of 1999 and all other Redskins!!! I am currently at UC Santa Barbara and I LOVE IT!!!
I am a double major in Psych and Soc thinking about a minor in some kind of obscure language
like Greek or Latin. The classes are challenging but very interesting and rewarding. High School was fun, but it was nothing like college. The last year was the most exciting of my whole life. I have seen and experienced so many new things. Santa Barbara is unbelievable, the weather is incredible the people are amazing and the beach is PERFECT!!! My dorm room had a "Million Dollar View" of the ocean and beach, which was about a half mile away. If anyone is interested in going there or has any questions or just wants to say HI go ahead and e-mail me @ jcc@umail.ucsb.edu. HAVE FUN!!!

Ernest A. Costa--Class of 1941

In 1939 my father, Ernest A. Costa, was a sophomore at Tulare High School and played on the baseball team that won the San Joaquin Valley Championship. He still has his gold baseball that was awarded to each team member. He graduated Tulare High in 1941.
Growing up in Sacramento, all my brothers and sisters ever hear about was, "Tulare."
As young children, we assumed that Tulare must be the Center of the Universe. (And, perhaps it is.)
Today, I have children of my own and my father, their grandfather, continues to expound the virtues of Tulare.  Thank you for continuing the tradition of excellence within the Tulare community.

Very best regards,
John Costa

Tom A. Cox--Class of 1989

I would love to say that I have made it big in the world, but the truth is, like most folk, I'm just
living and making the strokes on far too many bills. I went to COS for awhile, then moved out
to Wayne, Nebraska (population 5000, 10,000 with school in session) with fellow TUHS alumni,
Todd Alberti and Terry Beair in Aug. of 91.
Between changing majors, getting instate residence, and a number of other things that probably
wouldn't get past the webmaster's delete key, I graduated from Wayne State College in May
of 19 97 with a degree in Broadcast Communication. I met my wife and best friend Xtina (She was born on Xmas Eve in 1971) in Omaha over cocktails in 19 96. We recently (Feb 20 00) got married at The Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, with Elvis at our side. TCB baby, TCB.  I have had a ton of jobs since my first at Mickey D's back in the day, but Ameritrade is my current employer. Please don't ask for stock tips unless you want to lose $$$.
On the home front, expect my seed to find purchase in the next 5 years and you better believe
we will home school 'til the high school years. Public Schools are a joke these days.
Well wishes to all my people out there. Feel free to shoot me a message.
Final Question; When is TUHS going to step up and change the mascot name to something less offensive?   Final Message; Coach Lacock, the yelling didn't work, I'm an eternal Candy-Ass with bad hearing now.
Favorite TUHS memory; The numerous times we packed over 10 people into my Blazer and did some lawn work over at Western, No. The time directly after graduation that we spent at The Portuguese Palm Springs, Pismo Beach, close but not quite my favorite.  My favorite without a doubt is the time we... (WEBMASTER NOTE: This reminiscence has been
censored to protect the innocent and guilty as well as national security, thank you)...and I can't believe that it happened to me. So long folks.

Richard (Rick) Cozby--Class of 1972

Could you please add me to the web page. Thank You. My where does the time go! I graduated with the Class of 1972. Just where have the past 34 years gone, well I spent some of it with the Navy. After Graduating I just hung out and worked at the Village Bowl, which is now gone. That was going no where to speak of so I joined the Navy in August of 1973 for 4 years, the travel was great as well as the duty stations. I spent the 4 years in Hawaii . Had so much fun those years just flew by, so I went and did it for six more years and after that I just decided to make it home for a while. During which time I met a young lady from Visalia, and the next thing I knew I was getting married, was married in Hawaii Sept 1981 her name was Wendy Drysdale and the only bad thing she's a grad from Redwood Oh well. Anyway we had 4 children, two girls and twin boys. Once I was married I decided to spend 11 more years with the Navy in the Bay area and retired in Sept 1994. After retiring I returned to the valley and packed up the family and moved to Clarksville Tennessee , where I have lived
now for 12 years. I wish I could say I was retired and not working but I can not. I have been working for the State for 11 years as a Deputy State Fire Marshal covering 3 counties. I have attended 3 reunions, the last was the 30 year and it was a great time. Saw a lot of old class mates some I knew when I saw them and others have changed thru the years I did not know who they were. Thank goodness for the name tag. Well that's my life story. Let's get in touch, send an e-mail it would be nice to hear from the Class of 1972.

Steven Ray Crook--Class of 1993

I went to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where I majored in Architectural Engineering (AKA Structural Engineering).  My naive attempt to compress a 4-year degree into 3 was de-railed early, but I was eventually awarded a B.S. degree in 1998.  I don't consider engineering to be my "calling" in life (although I love my job and am rather good at it) so needless to say I have no plans of a Masters or PhD degree anytime soon.  At least not until I can get it in Literature or History, which I should have done the first time around.
To the current (and future) students at TUHS:  Do not let circumstances rule your life.  Both of my parents had severe health problems when I was growing up.  Neither one was well enough to work, and we were quite poor.  My mother passed away when I was nine, and my father went to meet her when I was a freshman at TUHS.  My father, who had only a fourth-grade education, made it very clear to me that it was his pride and joy to see me succeed in my education, and that he dreamed of seeing me go to college.  A sense of duty to my parents and myself compelled me and gave me focus on the days when I otherwise had none.
Ladies and gentlemen of the next generation, do not lie to yourself.  Your education is without question the most important thing you can give yourself at this point in your life (not clothes, not parties, not sex, not fun, but education).  It will be the "gift that keeps on giving" for the rest of your life.  In college, I had no support (financial or otherwise) from my family. I knew kids whose parents provided them with nice apartments, cool clothes, cool cars, and money to party and play with.  I'm sure you know kids like that now.  Do not distract yourself with jealousy of their material wealth.  A mentor of mine advised me to "control your controllables" namely your attitude and your work habits. I pass that advice along to you.  You'll have the next fifty years of your life to have the fun that you deserve.  I'll never be a millionaire, but I can't help but feel that every day of my life, from December 5, 1989 to the day I pass from this earth is one big "Bonus Round".  If you are facing adversity now, I sincerely hope that you persist, and let others reach out to help you.  I hope that you make it to the other side, and that you feel the gratitude and serenity that I do.
Many thanks to Ms. Neeley, Mrs. Landon, Mr. Lacock, Ms. Welch and the many other amazing people at TUHS who caught me when I was slipping, and who taught me to catch myself.  Thank you.

Hear ye, hear ye!
Let it be known that on this day I officially commenced work on my first engineering project which will be built in my own hometown. That's right, yours truly will be doing the engineering analysis, detailing and construction administration of the new 10-plex theatre that is to be built in Tulare.   I'm so excited! People that I know will go to a building that I engineered for a little 2-hour escape from reality. Heck, I might even go as well if I visit town long enough.
Isn't it cool?! Boy gets quality education. Boy leaves town for higher learning. Boy gets degree. Boy gets job and works 80 hours a week. oy applies knowledge and experience to help those who helped him to obtain knowledge and experience. And the circle goes on.
Tell me you're not excited!
