Tulare Union ASB, after a full year of secret planning, pulled off what many are saying was the most impactful event in the school's history. Last Wednesday & Thursday the leadership class staged a drunk driving accident as part of a program called, "Every 15 Minutes." The purpose of the program is to make students and staff aware that every 15 minutes someone dies in the United States because of driving under the influence. Check out the video below.

The HEAT Program
Starting on Monday, February 4, 2013 we will be starting a new program at Tulare Union called HEAT.  HEAT stands for, "Help Eliminate Academic Tardiness".  HEAT will operate on the first A and following B day of each week.  At the end of each period on those two days, teachers will have the option to release students who are academically showing success, 20 minutes early from class.  Each teacher has the discretion as to whether or not they will be releasing students.  Those students who are not released will be able to stay in class and receive additional instruction in hopes of improving their academic performance.  Again, I want to stress that the teachers will be the ones who determine whether or not students will be released early.  (HEAT Guidelines are attached
(HEAT Calendar is attached)

For those students who are released early, they will have the option of staying on campus in designated areas, going to lunch early, which can include buying food early on campus, or for those students who have off campus privileges, they will be able to go off campus early, and finally, at the end of the day, those students who are released will have the option of going home early.

If you are wondering why we are implementing the new HEAT Program, there are a couple of reasons why:

          1. To reward students who are doing well academically by allowing them to be released early from class, go to break and/or lunch early, and even go home early.  The students who do get released early will be able to start their homework, talk to friends, get food earlier, whatever they choose to do...

          2. To provide time for students who are not being successful to receive extra support and instruction from their teachers in a smaller class setting.  In this smaller setting, they will receive more individual assistance from their teacher.  Hopefully this will enable them to be successful, and eventually they too can be released early from class... :)

This program will be in effect the first A and B day of each week, and we will be starting on Monday, February 4. (HEAT Calendar is attached)
